Course Description
This On-Demand lecture series is designed as an adult and geriatric pharmacology update at the advanced practice level. Sessions focus on current recommendations and controversies regarding drug therapy for common adult and geriatric health issues and include appropriate pharmacotherapeutic principles and recommendations for patient and family education. Teaching methods include lecture, discussion and case analysis.
Target Audience
Advanced practice nurse practitioners, especially adult, geriatric and family nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, nurses, pharmacists and other interested healthcare professionals.
Objectives for Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this program, participants will be better able to:
- Evaluate newly approved medications and their role in therapy for older adults.
- Counsel patients on current evidence regarding smoking cessation medications.
- How to perform an in-depth clinical evaluation of insomnia and select most the appropriate drug therapy with understanding of mechanism and side effects.
- Identify three commonly used medications and their indications and side effects in palliative care.
- Appropriately use non-statin cholesterol lowering medications and identify the role of triglycerides in cardiovascular risk.
- Identify first line antiviral therapies for patients with hepatitis C previously untreated with/without cirrhosis.
