In this second sprint, you’ll discover personal and practical strategies to help you become a more intentional and influential leader. No need to have participated in the first sprint, but we certainly welcome all those who did!

Your Instructors

Amy Howells, PhD, ARNP, CPNP-AC-PC

Dr. Amy Howells is an Associate Teaching Professor at the University of Washington School of Nursing, teaching in both the undergraduate and graduate programs. She also works in the pediatric intensive care unit at Seattle Children’s Hospital. She specializes in pediatric nursing, bioethics, and leadership. She is a sought after speaker for her expertise in leadership, communication, and professional identity focusing on emotional intelligence as a core concept.

 

Andrew Hafenbrack, PhD

Dr. Andrew Hafenbrack is an Assistant Professor of Management and Organization and an Evert McCabe Endowed Fellow at the UW Foster School of Business, one of the top ten business schools in the country. His research on the costs and benefits of mindfulness and culture has been published in leading psychology and business journals and in publications like The New York Times, Harvard Business Review and Forbes. He has been interviewed by CBS, BBC and other organizations. He also notes that his mother and grandmother were nurses. He will be presenting a guest lecture on mindfulness, stress, emotion, and interpersonal collaboration.

Sprint Description

The sprint has been designed for busy healthcare professionals and is learner-centered to promote personal and professional empowerment. The core of the sprint runs from February 27 to March 15, though there will be an orientation session available before then. The sprint consists of:

  • Self-paced modules where you work through materials and resources to reflect on how best to implement what you’re learning
  • Live, streaming presentations. The keynote presentations will be recorded for later viewing.
  • Facilitated discussions with your peers
  • The development of an action plan which you can implement at work, adapt personally or use for career advancement

Sprint facilitators will be available throughout to orient you to the sprint and help you be successful. Participants will also have the opportunity to earn a LinkedIn badge in addition to 17 contact hours.

She has led her teams to 6 Magnet Designations which recognizes healthcare organizations for their quality patient care, nursing excellence, and innovations in professional nursing practice. Dr. Sayre is a sought-after speaker and uses wisdom and humor to provide a unique view on providing effective leadership to nursing teams.

 

 

 

 

Michael Johnson, PhD,
Professor, UW Foster School of Business

Dr. Michael Johnson is the Boeing Company Endowed Professor in Business Management at the UW Foster School of Business, one of the top ten business schools in the country. He has published over 20 papers on leadership, decision making, and teamwork, and also presented at a number of conferences. Dr. Johnson has received several awards for his excellence in teaching. He will be providing a guest lecture on decision-making.

While the course runs from October 30-Nov 15, it’s been designed to be flexible and you’ll be able to engage as much as you’re able to. You’ll also be able to turn in your action plan for up to 2 months after the end of the course. The course consists of:

  • Live, online presentations. The keynote presentations will be recorded for later viewing.
  • Facilitated discussions with your peers
  • The development of an action plan which you can implement at work, adapt personally or use for career advancement
