Patty Hayes, MN, RN
Former Director, Public Health Seattle & King County, Member State Board of Health (Retired)
For over 40 years, Patty Hayes has been a leader in Public Health & public policy development. She recently retired from her position as Director of Public Health Seattle & King County where she led the efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as other public health initiatives such as Best Starts for Kids. Currently, Patty has been appointed by the Governor to serve on the State Board of Health and the Public Health Advisory Board. She also serves as Chair of the UW School of Nursing Dean’s Advisory Board. Patty has received numerous awards including the UW Alumna Summa Laude Dignata in 2020, the MLK Medal of Distinguished Service in 2021, ANA Honorary Recognition Award in 2011 and was inducted into the WSNA Nursing Hall of Fame in 2002.

Alic Shook, PhD, RN is an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing and a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Future of Nursing Scholar. He is a pediatric and population health nurse with experience in pediatric emergency medicine, pediatric oncology/hematology, pediatric intensive care, HIV services, and research. Most recently his research has focused on the healthcare-seeking experiences of transgender youth under 18 and how the intersection of age, race, gender, class, and transphobia influences their abilities to access a range of health and social services. He is currently working on the development of a sexual health curriculum for transgender and non-binary youth with collaborators at Seattle Children’s Hospital and the University of Washington and a qualitative study aimed at furthering the conceptual understanding of how stigma impacts individuals living with sickle cell disease, as well as how stigma power operates within nursing practice.

Conference Description
Nurses practicing in Ambulatory Care Specialty have diverse roles, serve unique groups of patients, and require specific clinical and management skills. This conference is an educational forum for those who practice in a wide variety of settings, including large and small primary and specialty clinics, physician offices, home health, long-term care, public health, community health, occupational health, school health, college health, military health, case management, and other outpatient settings.
General and 5 sets of concurrent sessions allow registrants to design a conference that meets their needs. The conference goals are to strengthen nursing practice, promote innovation and create seamless systems for patients and communities. Teaching methods include lectures, discussions, case studies, poster sessions, and collegial interchange.

Dr. Michele Andrasik is a clinical health psychologist and Director of Social Behavioral Sciences and Community Engagement for the Fred Hutchinson-based HIV Vaccine Trials Network and the COVID-19 Prevention Network. With expertise in community engagement and historical trauma, she’s making an impact in clinical research. Her presentations inspire and inform audiences on the intersection of community engagement and clinical research. Kevonya is a Registered Nurse and an Integrative Healing Facilitator. As a facilitator, my work focuses on engaging individuals within the classroom, community, and organizational setting to see racial healing as integral to public health and personal well-being. As an RN, she works at Neighborcare Health as a community health nurse providing RN led primary care within a permanent supportive housing setting in the Seattle area.
Objectives for Learning Outcomes
Learners will be able to:
- Appraise relevant clinical guidelines and evidence-based practice within their practice setting.
- Explore strategies for providing primary, community-based, and preventative services to promote value-based care
