Speaker

Sarah Matthews, DNP, ARNP, FNP-BC

Sarah is a family nurse practitioner who has specialized in dermatology at Kaiser Permanente Washington for over 18 years. In 2015 she joined UW as an Assistant Professor and was the Director of the Family Nurse Practitioner DNP program until recently. She has been conducting research in collaboration with the Kaiser Permanent Health Research Institute while maintaining her clinical practice in dermatology. Her program of research is focused on the treatment of immune-driven photo-responsive dermatologic conditions and vitamin D.

Target Audience

Advanced practice nurse practitioners, especially adult, geriatric and family nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, nurses, pharmacists and other interested healthcare professionals.

Objectives for Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be better able to:

  1. Identify the most common dermatologic diseases in the geriatric age group.
  2. Describe challenges related to prescribing dermatologic medications to older patients.
  3. Understand prescribing principles related to older dermatologic patients.
  4. Recommend appropriate pharmacologic management for various dermatologic conditions in older patients.
